Pillage and Plunder Down Under day 15

Today was our last full day in New Zealand. A couple blocks away from our hotel were these volcano things. This was probably the only spot we've been kicked out of in 2 weeks traveling from Australia to New Zealand. Speaking of volcano's we went to the top of one that overlooked the whole world pretty much. Or city. We were not the only ones up there. Skated some schools since it was the weekend. David looked for anything and everything to noseslide nollie half cab. In english that means noseslide fakie. And he might have been sarcastic but might not have been. Sierra got Marry Poppins. Went to a sketchy New Zealandish spot. Heeeeeeello... David got taken into the candy dispensing looking toy cop car. But just for fun. Not for criminalness acts. Just invented that word. Sweet As. The day was a wrap.

Sarah Palin Hates Skateboarders

Be sure to vote! * Palin Supported Penalties for Using Skateboards on Public or Private Property in Wasilla. 'Beginning Oct. 15 - after the expected opening of the $233,000 Wasilla Skate Park - skaters will be breaking the law if they use their skateboards, in-line skates, bicycles, scooters (or any other recreational, non-motorized wheeled device) on public or private property where signs are posted forbidding their use.' The Frontiersman added, 'In the ordinance approved Monday, the penalty for first-time violators of the ordinance is a written warning and the skate device may be confiscated for 10 calendar days. For a second offense, a $50 fine shall be paid and the skate device may be confiscated for 30 calendar days. A third-time offender will have to pay a $100 fine and will lose his or her skate device permanently.' [Frontiersman, 9/18/98]

Pillage and Plunder Down Under day 14

David scorches past me waiting outside the hotel for our ride. Clearly he was fired up for anther day in New Zealand's sheep country like settings. We just recently just gave Sierra a pro model styrofoam coffee cup. Its not that big of deal. But mostly is. Today was demo day. A good crowd showed up for the event. Full of all sorts of New Zealander's. David back overcrook. These guys wanted to be in the blog. He wanted cover of the blog also. Ha. Funny New Zealander. Not a chance. But you made the website at least. Gareth, we ran into your brother at the demo. Then crossed through the forest to find some hidden spot. This wasn't the spot. But oh well. Sierra with a back nosegrind. Lots of amazing views here in New Zealand. Our hotel is located next to that blue thing. Just so you know. I guess.

After getting a full nights sleep in Auckland we decided to check out what the city had to offer. Went to the warm up spot first. Followed by a session in the snake run. Searched for hidden gems in the local horse racing stadium. Corey and Sierra didn't find much. The guys from Irrom took us to another ancient snake run. Which turned out to be pretty fun. Corey and Nuge next to some New Zealand artwork. David warms up at a school while the teachers and staff quickly became intrigued with our skateboarding and offered us crackers and oranges from the day care. The principal even came out to check out the scene. This kid came up on a new board. Nuge and Sierra taking a break and watching... David got a trick... We had a signing at Cheapskates. We almost made it on time to this one. Another night another one spent skating... Check back in for another update from New Zealand.

Auckland is a pretty fun word to say. I like it. Upon arriving there we were shortly greeted by our hosts Morri, Rhys, and Bill from Irrom Distribution. Today was the sad day we all had to leave our great host Peter from Goliath Distribution. He has taken such good care of us but we had a flight to New Zealand ahead of us. Don't know why this made it into my blog but it did. Thank you Aussie bag thrower on planes guys. We couldn't have done it without you. Another boring photo of a airplane inside. Nothing exciting to talk about. Nothing exciting to look at. Moving on. These are half Australia and half New Zealand clouds. Sorry for the lack of updates. Internet hasn't been the easiest to find. Anways back to my story...which we now need to go back a few days to explore. When we were in Brisbane Corey and Nuge both suffered small injuries so we headed to the local emergency room to get them checked out. I snuck a x ray photo. As a end result Corey broke his pinky toe. What the...are these things. The locals took us to there snake run spot. Corey shredded it on a old school board even with a broken toe. While David drops into a slide on the way to bigger and better things... Skaaaaadooosh. Not that much variety in the board department at the moment. I will do a update soon and let you know everyone's selections at the moment. Checked out some local spots. With some local kids. Their teachers were actually encouraging us to skate. Glad to know that full pipes made it out to kangaroo land.

Another day another shop signing. This time it was at Skateboards Only. Which happens to be Chad Bartie's shop. More kids, more autographs. Everyone was in good spirits. After the signing the plan was to head over to the local new skate park in Varsity and have a demo. The park was a mix between a skate plaza and a downhill snake run. None the less a amazing park. None the less. Ha. What a stupid thing to say. Supposedly Spider Man the movie sponsored the park. Or not. Hmmm...If it was up to me to come up with the artwork for the cradle... Taaa Daaa David skates the rail as the crowd continues to grow. Full of Australia's best citizens. Corey back tails and lands cover of my latest blog. Its another cover in the middle of my blog. I like it that way because people to have actually read through each days entry to find the latest best picture of the day. Tod battles back with a feeble of his own. Thats respectable. Pig mobile. David I got my eye on you. Always up to something... We headed over to check out some of the local spots. Corey warms up on the double set with a ollie... Swank cam?! Another long day is under wraps down under.

Pillage and Plunder Down Under day 8

Today was a special day off day. Driving from the airport to the new hotel destination and Zooing. Zooing is a word now because I just invented it. Carry on. This wasn't any regular zoo. This was the The Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin's zoo. And we were proud to be there. Since we entered the park with a large amount of camera equipment and they didn't want us shooting certain animals in fear we could be eaten alive we were quickly escorted around the park by a special guest. His name was Wayne and he was a very good friend of Steve Irwin's. Don't sit on a fence next to a crocodile. Point taken. But they should really do a before and after picture because I could see some people thinking that was a good spot because they were tired from walking and wanted to be high up enough to see well. Until there little feets get eaten off by this guy. Here Crocy Crocy Crocy... The most outdoors man of the group Sierra had no trouble wrangling himself a lizard off the beaten path. The stadium which held a crocodile show. Whats with all this crocodile talk. We all know why we were at the zoo. I will just get to it. Good thing I changed the name from Joey to Lilly. hahaha. I could be the only one laughing here. Yes! We found the Kangaroos here! That is so American of us. Too lazy to find one in the wild so we pay to play with them in cages. I love it. Sierra found one as well. Don puts bunny ears on a kangaroo...Allright that's fine with me I assume. Notice how this one has one too legs.. Well that's because theres a little baby in there dummy. That's probably Joey in there from the sign! We found Joey. He was in a pouch. A moving living time machine. I drew what the inside looked like probably. Actually its a x ray I got from the medical examination center on site at the zoo. You are welcome. Moving on buddy. On the way out we fed some elephants as well. Just another day feeding elephants and putting bunny ears on kangaroos.

Nick bombed around some OC ditches this weekend. Josh Harmony and Austin Stephens weren't there because they are in Spain... All the homies were there. Kincade was there constructing his new vision. He was climbing to get the "dope angle"... But Grant knocked him off for some reason. Then Nick got the idea to try out his new trick... One footed boardslide layback. Sunday Bar-B-Que

Diego recently had an Argie BBQ with the homies. Keeping it classic. They like to intimidate the meat before eating. They say it tastes better. The Butch even invited the local gypsies for the occasion. Soon a full party began to rage. Shirts came off and cups went to heads. Diego paid homage to the Machine by sucking the blood off the butcher's block. Nice one.

We started the day off at a local skatepark with a bowl. David back noseblunts and we were off to board the plane to Sidney. We did a shop signing at Monster skatepark. Look at the surprise guest. Mr. Tod Swank flew in surprise the team. At the demo there was a small collision with 2 guys. Here Peter from Goliath stands with one of the victims. He continued to skate the demo. Wow. Must have something to do with sharing a country with kangaroos or something. Sierra back smiths for the blog skate cam. We couldn't get David to stop skating the demo. We had to practically drag him off the street course. You will all see in the video... Don signs for a fan. French fry machine eh? I actually heard we have these in the states though...

Berrics Sucker Punches Rob!

If you're not on the team you can get hella web-time by just injuring yourself on the regular. Rob knows this and therefore stabbed himself with the flatbar at the Berrics. He had to wash off in the deluxe new bio-hazard shower. It looked like "Psycho".

The local Quicksilver has our back in Melbourne. I saw that they even color coordinated the display for us. Board shorts, bikinis, and a Toy Machine complete. Yeah they all go together now I guess? Even David was excited. Especially when I asked him to front blunt this ledge for the cover of my new blog feature. Instead of covers being in the front I'm currently giving covers in the middle of the blog. David has become so photogenic as of late. Even when asked to pose a tree man picture. We tried to hit up a couple spots before the demo but the local authority didn't really agree with us on that one. Ahhh man I keep forgetting to look for kangaroos at skate spots. What the heck where are all of them. I think I might start investing my time in looking for Koalas. Are they here too? The demo scene we attended before it was rained out. I noticed something kind of odd. There were bathrooms that didn't have roofs on them here. Interesting little buggers. Not sure if buggers is the right slang for the country I'm at. Don't think so. The local media heard about our hunt for koalas and kangaroos and were interested in how we were going to find them. I told them we would probably go to the local zoo. Duh. Easy answer. Sierra gets questioned as well... YouTube it.

Pillage and Plunder Down Under day 3

Today we woke up and went straight to the Indian Jones spot out in the middle of nowhere. Which happened to be very productive for us. For skating that is. Not productive in the hunt for kangaroos. This guy probably has the all time worst job in the world. Well maybe thats a stretch but his job was by far way worse than ours. He was spraying weeds with poison in the middle of the outback. I'm not sure if this is the outback but he was obviously not very excited at our hunt for kangaroos. As he questioned our existence out there. I feel like maybe this isn't as much as a skate trip anymore as it is a hunt for kangaroo trip. Well David and I were just thinking that we want to maybe just catch one for a second and put something in its pouch when we were out here. Something American like not meat pies. Or really expensive soda. Something from Walmart or something. I consider Kangaroo pouches like moving time capsules. In a way. We looked high and low. As you can see. Nuge and David living the outback life. Is this the outback? I just found out its not. Not even close. After the non outback session we did a signing at Redlight Skateboards. What the... I ended it with a photo that you won't understand. Me neither. Just some sculpture thing in the mall.

In attempting to keep the sessions mid-nineties style, we searched around Irvine last weekend. Austin found a beaute of a curved ledge and noseslid it with fervor. Matt B was feeling patriotic and corporate. Perfect Republican in the making. That explains how he got patriotic and evil during lunch. Then we made Rob jump down stuff for our pleasure. He eventually got up in in our faces about it.

Australia from the plane even after the 15 hour ride was looking pretty interesting. Following the long plane ride we all stood in airport lines for hours trying to get through customs. We made it. And were on our way to meet up with Peter from Goliath distribution. Who would be showing us around. Sierra on baggage duty. Peter, Rhino and Nuge after eating at this breakfast spot. We headed over to Goliath distribution to sign some boards for the local shops. David got Ali G outside the warehouse. Our van of choice in AUS. Quick back to the gang signs real quick. First spot of the day was this bank to curb. Then we checked out this thing. Next spot was Crawford. Met up with some kids Elijah's age and skated with them. Elijah's boardslide... The other kids boardslide attempt. He'll get it eventually though. I don't doubt that. We moved onto the bigger rail. Drew Dezort followed Elijah's back lip with a lipslide of his own and we were out. On to bigger and better things. Like this. We opted to skate the small hubba instead. New Fan Filmed Demo On Videodrone!

This is Raymond Ramirez, the filmer of the current episode of Videodrone's Oddity Odyssey. Each week will be a post of the successive demos from the Toy Machine's Oddity Odyssey Tour filmed by a loyal pawn. Here's a quick interview with Toy's video button pusher, Kevin Barnett regarding the idea's inception and execution. What was the idea behind 'kid filmed demos'? It was half inspired by just perusing YouTube for all our demos and seeing how much of the action the random kid in the crowd actually caught. I can only get so much, so well but a kid on the sidelines gets it all. It was also an idea I stole from the Beastie Boys. They had a concert film that was fan filmed and I thought it was a good idea, while not a particularly great film. Who were the filmers? Billy Hoss, Christopher Ohnerorge, Raymond Ramirez, Brendan Bill, Austin McDowell, Brandon Bigelow, Evan Duran, Nick Cannon, and Ryan O'Connor. Thanks guys! What would they do? Was their footage good? Every kid had a different method. I would give them a tape and tell them to go wherever and do whatever they wanted. I thought about directing them sometimes but in the end I decided it would be best to just see what these guys did on their own. The footage isn't good in the traditional way of skate filming, but the quality lies in the raw weirdness of a kid set loose. I love all of it!

You Spin Me Right Round Baby

Went out to Circle Central with Mr. B. He wanted to show everyone how to front nose. Little Bill showed up for 8 minutes. He's finally at the end of the Fallen video part trail. A sense of relief and accomplishment filled the air around him. He's now free to work on his nollie impossibles. And join up with the local hockey league. He had to break out early for practice. Grif was there and made his very own Woodhenge. Logan Kincade 15 is out now! The Grime was playing stupid with Matt B. He saw this sign... And followed half the instructions immediately. Skate Mission #3287

Josh got a boardslide shipped to him the other day. Austin's got lost in the mail. When we showed up to the spot, Matt B. was already there practicing for his homeless phase. Josh seemed perplexed by this, but soon he was distracted by the beauty of nature. That is until Rob got up on them walls... And up in the air. Damn that handsome Flobot. He lets the world get weird around him, convinced he can do nothing. Ed would like to remind him (and you) not to be a dildo and register to vote. The world only gets as sketchy as we allow it. Even Matt Damon is pissed.

It's official

The band has formed. With Andrew Elliot the good friend cashing his giant Battle of the Shops check he decided it should be put to good use. Rock Band was purchased. Chris on the drums and 14 year old Elijah on the mic. His voice at that age reminds me of a young Celine Dion. Its magical. Jesse on the guitar to finish off the band. We'll probably add a bass to the band soon. More updates and tour information soon. Maybe you will see Rock Hawrd in a town near you?

A sketchy girl was last seen in Nick's Long Beach home and when he awoke he was missing two laptops, a dvd player, his i pod, cords to his surround sound, i pod and computer chargers and Monte's backpack was used in the heist. Sinclar's flash got poached on this A-Stone ollie. Duffel was pointing out spots all weekend. Sinclar and Burn-Dog got caught in a tight squeeze. Even more new ink for Nick. Panther flick!

ASR signing photos

I think we accomplished something at ASR that nobody else did. We had the most people hanging out in our booth at all times over the weekend. And we even pulled off a signing... All the bros were there. Alex showed off his signature skills. Corey, Leticia, and Swank all pose for a photo. That's not my finger...my guess is it's Angel's. That's a wrap.

Trading Up

Conditions were cramped down at ASR Tradeshow this weekend. Monte handled it pretty well... Nick just slept through it as he is want to do most of the time. Ed almost showed up for the signing. Austin used his magical lariat to be transported away to Stonehenge.

Trade Show Time: Black Box Open House

There was a Black Bpx open house thing where companies could come set up a booth and the skaters can shred the park. The drive down was cheerful. They arrived to see Jamie Thomas in the dunk tank! Mike Sinclair grabbed a volleyball and started hucking! This is what it looked like. There was a Toy Machine autograph signing at our booth that really brought the crowd out... The Future of Toy Machine? Johnny was having fun And Josh was having fun too! Then the session turned into a gnar-session, whith people flying around in a total barge-a-thon. Josh took the time from the aggression to shoot a photo with the guy who usually shoots his photo, Joey Shigeo. The drive home: Not as fun.

New Fan Filmed Demo On Videodrone!

This is Billy Hoss, the filmer of the first episode of Videodrone's Oddity Odyssey. Each week will be a post of the successive demos from the Toy Machine's Oddity Odyssey Tour filmed by a loyal pawn. Here's a quick interview with Toy's video button pusher, Kevin Barnett regarding the idea's inception and execution. What was the idea behind 'kid filmed demos'? It was half inspired by just perusing YouTube for all our demos and seeing how much of the action the random kid in the crowd actually caught. I can only get so much, so well but a kid on the sidelines gets it all. It was also an idea I stole from the Beastie Boys. They had a concert film that was fan filmed and I thought it was a good idea, while not a particularly great film. Who were the filmers? Billy Hoss, Christopher Ohnerorge, Raymond Ramirez, Brendan Bill, Austin McDowell, Brandon Bigelow, Evan Duran, Nick Cannon, and Ryan O'Connor. Thanks guys! What would they do? Was their footage good? Every kid had a different method. I would give them a tape and tell them to go wherever and do whatever they wanted. I thought about directing them sometimes but in the end I decided it would be best to just see what these guys did on their own. The footage isn't good in the traditional way of skate filming, but the quality lies in the raw weirdness of a kid set loose. I love all of it! Next episode will be posted this time next week, so stay tuned!

Tum Yeto visits the Black Box open house

The tents were aligned and everyone was ready to do business...or were they... Nope! Tum Yeto's own Mike Sinclair dunks Jamie Thomas. The inside of the Tum Yeto booth. Employees and friends included. Black Box Open House

The day before the ASR trade show Black Box invited Dekline and Tum Yeto to set up shop at the Black Box warehouse. Emily, the sales staff and Swank were all in attendance. Thanks to Jamie Thomas for the invite and good times. Thanks to everyone who came out. See you next year....

Pro Party Retrospective

Nick cools off en route to the surprise. Boosh didn't say a word. Get 'em while they're hot. Nick celebrated in various ways. Mom and brother Peter get in on the fanfare. Austin looked on with some nostalgia, longing for his rookie pro days. Grif was very happy for Nick. Grif wants you to check this out. It was a good time.

Toy in Nor-Cal Day Three: Mega-Labor Day-Post

Nick T has a 'Mag Minute' up right now at theskateboardmag.com... Corey strokes imaginary cock while summoning Satan's help for Kevin. Sierra was bumming. Reports say Kevin was RIPPING, showing the lazy team riders how to get motivated. Someone finally got motivated because the media assembled their gear. Ran into the 'world toughest' Loyal Pawn. He was willing to kick anyone's ass who does not worship the Machine. He forced this random kid to get everyone's autograph. Nick T. achieved Student of the Month after selling a 'phat-sack' to principal Skinner. Matt B. Befriends a vagabond as he is likely to do most days... Since it was Labor day, they called it a day and went to Duffel's backyard fun-zone for some swimming... And playing horseshoes... Austin tries to not look gay while 'tossing' Then Kevin shows him the correct form for a good 'toss'... Even Burn-Dog took part in livin' the good life. Shopping with Corey Duffel. After having a great time in the backyard... They took a change of direction from fast-food by staying home and making their own food! Nick shows his laid back BBQ skills. Buttery as his skating! It says 'Thou shall not kill HUMANS!', animals are fair game... Then they started playing C-Lo... Nick came up, at the expense of Sinclair going down.

Discussing the finer points of how to approach this gap, covering the ABD's and the techniques that should be applied to filming and photographing it in an original manner. This is a thinking about ?????? photo. In between skating and skating there is sitting, eating, and thinking... You're right, this isn't a skate photo. Oh yeah, did I mention Kevin gets rad? OK, this is NOT a skate photo, but in fact a typical scene at many skateparks. Where are the big older local dudes who should be hip-checking this kid out of the skatepark and back onto his suburban driveway? What is it with this new generation and their attempts at slappies? The lift their front tucks to it! Dude, it's all about the harsh barge. You gotta SLAP it.
