I've always been into animal rights and such and since reading all of your points of view on veganism and its benefits, I've really thought it was a great idea. I've done as much as I can to adapt to this lifestyle, and living in California made it easy to start. but my parents moved us to Oklahoma in a small town so vegan foods are hard to find. To make it worse, my dad tries to force me to eat meat; he says i wont be healthy without it. I've shown him things from the PETA website, but he just says its all biased. What can i do to try and make my parents more acceptive of veganism and understand that it really is healthier?
Posted By: icantadd on January 18th, 2006 at 10:19AM PST
veganism isnt for everyone! some people will get weak with out it and have to go back!
Posted By: some guy on January 18th, 2006 at 11:08AM PST
To icantadd:
Well this is where your Belief in Compassion comes to the test! Unfortunately, most parents have a closed mind. The days when their mind was open have passed. The PETA website IS biased! They are pushing THIER veiws. If you went to a cattle ranchers website, it would be biased towards their views. I just happen to side with PETA's views on most things, but not everything...
The best way to change your dad's mind will be him seeing your dedication to something. Be respectful of his wish to eat meat, don't ridicule him. Just do what YOU do, and stay informed. The US government's own food pyramid has changed! Look on the side of food at your store, it says that Fruits, Vegetables, and grains, are what you should be eating most of even... Perhaps your dad will trust the USA? Not many people have read a book about nutrition, or really spent any time looking into what we eat, even doctors get on average ONE hour of nutrition training in the freaking 8 years it takes to become a doctor. So don't listen to anyone on this subject beside YOURSELF. Read books. read websites, get information any way possible then THINK what sounds true to you? Be sure to NOT only get information from one source, or you will only learn their bias. Keep AWARE the big corporations dispense a TON of info that will ultimately get people to buy their stuff. So be very careful of the source.
But for your dilemma, it really depends on what city you are in, and how old you are!
If you are young and don't have a job, or a lot of money, you may be bound to eat whatever dad eats. It will be UNHEALTHY to eat hamburger buns and ketchup for your only food. You may have to wait to live your by your own standards until you can afford to. Vegan food is expensive. It takes longer to make, because it is often organic, and is made with higher standards. Where you live is important, because maybe there is a store there. Look in the phone book under: Health Food Retail, AND Restaurants. Maybe there is a store nearby>?

That is all I can write right now...

I could probably be strongh enough to become a vegan, but if eatin meat all my life. I don't think i would maintain all the extra things I would need to do and take to stay healthy. I think the reason most people arn't vegans isn't because they're not shown enough pictures of animal slaughter, even though that helps some, but that it's not convienent for the average person. I really respect people that are vegans and go out of their way to live a more positive life style and promote others to live a more positive life style, it seems really difficult to do, but it takes a strong person and a really self-confident person to do that. If only the world promoted veganism, and if it was less difficult I think it would be more socially acceptable. turn more people would become vegans and the world would be a better place, but nothing can be perfect. There will always be those that would refuse to life such a life style because of traditions and beliefs, but the world would still be a way better place. I try to eat less meat as I used to. I think everyone could do a little to help out. Much respect to all of those who are strong enough to live such a life style.

Wow I feel so sad, I have to go to a funeral of someone I knew who just died. Chelsea Makara & her mother, chelsea was only 15, its so horriable and tragic and im really bummed on it. I know this probably won't meen to much to anyone but I just felt like saying it. She lived right by me and I knew her well enough. She died in a car crash this saturday with her mother not to far from where I live, I just thought id say something.

Im 15, and it's so horriable to see someone go at such a young age. She was the nicest, prettiest, sweetest, and most loving person you could ever meet. She never even swore.

Hey dudes. I am totally loafin in my suburban castle, interneting my night away. remember when Josh did this tailslide second try? God look what we have resorted to: posting internet comments. for what? to be heard by all the loyal TOY pawns.its kinda cool. damn you kevin. damn you for having such a perfect outlet to inject your personal thoughts/feelings on the masses, and not doing so on a more regular basis. i admit this is my frist time visiting this website. Everyone seems to be saying kevin is slippin. i think this site is bad ass!!! i also think i like the internet. who else likes the internet?!? being a team manager is a demanding job, and we all understand the website must come thrid to 1. your job and 2. your personal life. however, if you get a chance, i have a request for a few things i would like to see : 1. a picture of Ed's cat (those are always funny).2. a scary photo of diego.3. any photo of lance dawes ( i know this one is retarded).
Posted By: im on to you on January 21st, 2006 at 12:23AM PST
I try and update daily, but time is a fickle mistress and she slips away from me more often than I like. I'll make an effort to post some seriously kick ass stuff in the next week to make up for it. And the official order goes: Filming the team, editing any due video projects, putting packages together, rounding up photos for ads, organizing skate missions, drving everyone everywhere, the website, and THEN my personal life.
