It's Tuff Being Famous: Toy in Chile Update
Johnny was big-time in Santiago. He was signing stuff and even made a TV appearance.
The local news channel covered the event.
Diego was interviewed as well, telling the Chilean people to buy Toy Machine or get butchered.
The Butcher's knee is looking gnarly.
The crowd was massive and started chanting 'do hammers!' at us. Apparently, they were more happy just watching their local heroes skate. We didn't even need to come! Kevin put it this way: 'With only three riders and in the midst of a local contest, the dudes did what they could among an expansive and jeering crowd. Diego was on the news and Johnny signed for days before injuries jinxed us.' Our driver likes to watch TV while on the road. Hopefully he runs over one of these street performers. After some hiccups with rider arrivals we're off to Valparaiso today.

Just got done watching "Welcome to Hell," and it's sick. Toy Machine has and always will rip. The team needs to take a trip down to the US Virgin Islands sometime, there are some sick spots and no company has ever pondered touring here. Chile's getting ripped up too. Diego's knee looks beyond a little gnar. Toy Machine for the world, man.

so i'm originally from California but i've been living in Santiago the last year. I read some of the commentary you guys had about the tournament here and i just thought i'd clarify some shit.
The skate scene in Chile is no where near as big or as developed as it is back in the states so all the chilean skaters look at the gringo pro skaters as legends. So when they were promised all these skaters from the states and not everyone showed up and the level of skate wasn't what they had hoped, they were really disappointed. so when diego rojas (the champion!!) landed every trick in his 3rd skate (finishing the round with a nollie frontside boardside) the fans went fucking crazy. The fact that a chilean skater showed up a team of gringos was huuuuuuuge. (Plus, the judges favored the skaters that run for the sponsors of the competition and left out some guys that had really good qualifying rounds).
